Announcing the 2020-21 Together in Education in Neighborhood Schools (TIE-INS) Program

Published: October 1, 2019

The 2020-21 Together In Education In Neighborhood Schools program, or TIE-INS. Launched in 2009, TIE-INS enables children of UCLA employees to attend certain LAUSD schools including families that live outside of the school’s attendance area. The program has been very popular among our faculty and staff; more than 1,800 children have participated since the program’s inception.

For the 2020–21 year, the participating schools are:

  • Beethoven Street Elementary School
  • Braddock Elementary School (new)
  • Broadway Elementary School
  • Brockton Elementary School
  • Nora Sterry Elementary School
  • Emerson Community Charter Middle School
  • Mark Twain Middle School
  • University High School Charter
  • Venice High School (new)

New for the 2020-21 School Year: Four of the nine TIE-INS schools now require families to complete the LAUSD eChoices application to be considered for admission to the school. Those schools are listed below. Please note that the LAUSD eChoices application window opens on October 1, 2019 and closes November 15, 2019. Families must complete both the LAUSD eChoices application and the TIE-INS application in order to be considered for space at these schools. The LAUSD eChoices application can be found online.

Dual Language Programs:

  • Braddock Elementary School (Mandarin Immersion Program)
  • Broadway Elementary School (Mandarin Immersion Program/Spanish Immersion Program)
  • Mark Twain Middle School (Mandarin Immersion Program/Spanish Immersion Program)
  • Venice High School (Mandarin Immersion Program/Spanish Immersion Program)

Please note that students may enter the dual language program in grades kindergarten-1st grade without demonstrating literacy in the target language. Students who enter the dual language program after 1st grade must demonstrate target language literacy prior to enrollment at the school.

Affiliated Charter Schools:

  • Emerson Community Charter Middle School
  • University High School Charter

The TIE-INS application deadline for all other schools that do not fall under an eChoices application is April 1, 2020.
